Kú, which means ‘sacred place’ in the Arawak Indian language, is close to Fountain Cave, one of the most important Indian ceremonial grounds in the Eastern Caribbean. The all-suite hotel is on Shoal Bay East, a two-mile beach of powdery white sand. Its informal chic was designed with the young and young-at-heart in mind. Modeled after the minimalist cool of Miami’s South Beach and the relaxed sophistication of St. Barts, it offers a sampling of the fun that goes with these destinations.
Widely recognized as one of the world’s best beaches, Shoal Bay East provides excellent snorkelling and diving at Kú’s doorstep by day, and is conducive to dining and dancing barefoot under the stars by night.
The hotel has 27 suites, a lively beachfront restaurant and bar, large beach front freshwater pool, delicatessen, spa, gym, dive shop and boutique.
The spacious, 775 sq. ft. suites at Kú are air conditioned, airy and bright, with an oceanfront or ocean view balcony. Each has a living/dining room, full kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, ceiling fans and a safe.
The suites are minimalist in style and are in white with pale aqua walls and white furniture and curtains. King- or twin-sized beds are covered with light, white duvets. Some suites have a pull out couch in the living room, radio, DVD and CD players.
The kitchens are fully-equipped with refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, pots, pans, electric kettle, flatware and dinnerware. The bathrooms have a hair dryer, shower and fluffy towels and bathrobes. Bath amenities are from Indonesia and include shampoo, hair conditioner and body lotion.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in Kú’s lively beachfront restaurant, open from 7:30 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
Breakfast is offered from 7:30-10:00 a.m. and includes fresh juices and fruit, eggs, breads, muffins and rolls, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Continental breakfast can be served in the guest suite.
Lunch, from 11:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., offers sandwiches, salads, barbecued chicken, fish or hamburgers and a selection of other menu items. Sunday lunch is especially festive with a local band playing. Picnic lunches can be prepared for land and sea day trips.
Dinner features Caribbean cuisine with a French twist and is served from 6:30-10:00 p.m.
The bar, open from 11:00 a.m.-10:00 pm.—or longer—is Anguilla’s longest bar at 75 ft. and is connected to the restaurant. A popular and unusual oasis for guests and visitors alike, it is double sided so that service is provided from both the beach and from the hotel side. Snacks are available.
There is live music at Sunday lunch and several nights during the week, with dancing on the beach under the stars.
At the “petit spa” massages, facials and other treatments are given.
