5star Barbados Airport Roundtrip Transfer

What an amazing, friendly welcome waiting for us when we arrived in Barbados – our driver gave us a fabulous journey to our hotel and pointed out all the places of interest on the way. People everywhere were so friendly and helpful and we had one of the best holidays ever. Our return journey to the airport was exactly as planned although we were very sad to be going home, but we will most certainly be returning to the island in the sun.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and very friendly. They made sure the children on board were actively involved with searching for marine life. We were not squished inside the submarine. The pilot made sure that the views were seen by both sides of the vessel. Got to see a giant female turtle on the reef. Very exciting.

barbados golf club Playing Golf at Barbados Golf Club

The Barbados Golf Club has become the soul of Barbados golf with its friendly atmosphere, coaching programs and charming terraced clubhouse, which opens on to an expansive and unique triple green. Re-designed by notable architect Ron Kirby and re-opened in 2000, the Barbados Golf Club is the island’s first public 18-hole championship golf course. This links-style 6,705 yd par 72 golf course features gently rolling hills, wide open fairways and a series of coral waste bunkers which and character to several holes. A large central lake adds intrigue on 3 holes and mature ‘mile’ trees bend and beckon in the cooling coastal breezes. The greens are superb, the welcome is truly Barbadian and there are great deals on beer for those intent on having a day of fun!

Originally built in 1974 by designer Col. J. Harris, the Barbados Golf Club underwent a complete reconstruction in 2000. The second wave of design was overseen by golf architect Ron Kirby. The result of all this attention is a challenging and fair course, with beautiful fairways and mature landscape elements.

Located at Durants, just a few short miles from the airport, the club has reasonable rates and a complete arsenal of attendant services. The club is open to the public and provides cart and shoe rentals, lockers, pro shop, clubhouse, bar and restaurant. Individual and group classes can be had here and the practice chipping and putting greens and warm up nets ensure everyone gets a day on the course off on the right foot.

The course is an exacting one and requires both a good long and short game. The open greens favour golfers who like to open their chest and hit the ball, but the short shots can be tricky. The 7th, 15th and 16th holes are exposed to the wind and an appreciation of the conditions will be well-rewarded here. The middle and end of the course lie just below the clubhouse, allowing for a convenient break in the afternoons.

Trees planted 25 years ago lend a mature air to the course. The winding fairways curve around two lakes, and coral waste pathways add excitement and character to four holes of the course. These coral bunkers also serve to catch rainwater, particularly important in the dry season.

The active club has a burgeoning youth programme and several championships are hosted here. Stick around for the Barbados Club Junior Championships, the Barbados Open and locally sponsored golfing events including the ‘Johnnie Walker Classic’ and ‘Carib Stableford’. This is an ideal outing for golfers of all abilities. The Barbados Golf Club is officially sanctioned by the European PGA tour.

The Royal Westmoreland Golf Club is universally agreed to offer some of the best par three golf anywhere, but the opportunities to test that claim are restricted. Situated on the rolling hills of an exclusive gated community, the greens were developed for the express use of real estate owners, their guests and the occasional international championship.

Should you secure an invite to this elegant development, be sure to try a game on the course. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Royal Westmoreland’s world-class 18-hole golf course. Jones believes it to be one of the finest, most challenging and most rewarding he has ever created. It is a superb 6870 yard par 72 course of unrivalled beauty, and every hole has a view of the glittering ocean. All of the short par three holes have elevated tees and demand cool nerves and accuracy. A short shot on the 7th will land your ball in the lake and pulling punches on the 3rd, 12th and 15th send the hopes of golfers into deep gullies. Lush palm groves fringe the fairways and a small freshwater lake lies at the centre of the property. Opened in 1995, the parkland has matured into an elegantly landscaped and manicured golf nirvana.

golfdigest royalwestmoreland Golf holidays at Royal Westmoreland Golf Club | BarbadosThe resort has gained a reputation as the destination of choice for the rich and famous. Hugh Grant has played here, and master champion Ian Woosman owns a home. The PGA Senior’s Event is the gala occasion for the course and has attracted such luminaries as his Royal Highness the Duke of York, soccer celebrity Vinny Jones and Garry Lineker. The glitzy occasion garners a significant amount of media attention and always supports the island with generous charity events and contributions.

barbados sandylane golf Golf at Sandy Lane Country Club | BarbadosThe new courses designed by Tom Fazio at the Sandy Lane Country Club are proving to be a smart investment. The carefully landscaped and manicured grounds provide an exquisite setting for golf. With three courses, the club has positioned itself as a highly desirable destination for golf in the Caribbean.

The newest course, the Green Monkey, is another masterpiece designed by Tom Fazio, (ranked as one of the leading golf course architects in the USA), and it is set to be one of his most spectacular and exciting designs yet. It will offer a whole new challenge to golfers at Sandy Lane, and will prove a magnificent addition to the resort. Sandy Lane’s existing two courses already appeal to golfers of all levels. You can test your skills on the 18-hole “Country Club” course (also designed by Tom Fazio), which is 7060 yards long and features lush greens, five lakes and fabulous open fairways with angled slopes. Alternatively you can enjoy a more relaxing game on the charming “Old Nine” course, constructed in 1961. With tree-lined fairways, it still winds its way magically through the old estate.

At Sandy Lane the management has undertaken a new pay-to-play marketing strategy, but the privileged quality of the resort remains intact.

At this resort the golfer can choose the level of intensity and challenge that he would like. The Country Club’s 14th hole can be a difficult test at a par five, but the 5th tee will reward the sportsman will spectacular views of the coast. The 18th demands an amazing shot across one of the clubs three freshwater lakes, but it’s within easy reach of the picturesque clubhouse. The Sandy Lane Clubhouse is the focal point of the resort and features a pro shop filled with the best in modern quality golf equipment, a fine restaurant and bar, and spacious locker rooms.

Golf carts at the Club are also a must on the course, as they are kitted out with systems for everything from advising your club choice, to ordering lunch delivered to you at your tee. For quality and sophistication, the Sandy Lane Resort will meet and exceed all expectations!

Barbadians are simply mad about their cricket, and particularly look forward to their matches with Britain. Taking place all year long, the various Cricket Festivals are populated by players from all over the world. Teams converge on our active isle for a whirlwind series of games.

Barbados is the home of West Indies cricket. Festivals include the highly-anticipated Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Tournament, ladies tournaments, youth tournaments, Universities tournaments, masters tournaments, police tournaments, blind cricketers tournaments and of course the feather in the cap of the Caribbean cricket calendar, the test match festival.

The Kensington Oval is our world class facility and many of the final matches have taken place there. The Bajan people show up in force for cricket matches and love to end a day at the pitch with a few drinks at the bar socializing. The only thing impeding the players’ performance is the evening spent in the beach bar the night before! You’ll find that Barbadians don’t mind who wins – so long as he’s a Bajan! The fans here are the best fans around, and the camaraderie with their British and European visitors is second to none.

England has returned to the Caribbean after a five year absence and they will see many major improvements to the Oval. Barbados is eagerly anticipating World Cup in 2007, and all the top cricket grounds are engaging renovators and groundskeepers so that we will meet the standards as hosts of this international tournament. The Kensington Oval will also undergo a major facelift in the next few years in order to build upon its recent improvements.

Make the most of your visit to a cricket festival and get a taste for everything the festival can offer, from the cricket to the rum punches and Banks’ beer on the beach. Come and enjoy our cricket.

School Cricket Festivals
The Sir Garfield Sobers Schools International Tournament is a seventeen year long tradition that exposes school children to the best of Barbados cricket. Taking place in July, the festival is by invitation of Sir Garfield (Sir Gary,) only and affords the boys two weeks of cricket as well as a chance to explore their country, its people and its culture.
