During this Roseau walking tour, you’ll be lead through the Creole architecture of Roseau, known for its spectacular verandas, while you hear about city’s history and visit the landmarks that reflect its past.
You will start your walking tour at the Old Market Plaza, an expansive series of souvenir stalls. Continue up Church Street to Roseau Cathedral, a beautiful black stone cathedral built in the Gothic style. The Roseau Cathedral reflects the European-meets-Creole influence in Dominica.
Along the way, you’ll visit the War Memorial and the Anglican Church, another example of Europe’s architectural influence on Dominica. From here, you’ll proceed to King George Street before returning to the Roseau Bay Front. Next, you’ll visit the Baracoon Building, one of the last slave market buildings still standing in the Caribbean. Inside, you’ll see the holding cells where the slaves were kept. This excursion in the so-called land of 365 rivers on the Nature Isle of the Caribbean is wet, wild and wonderful from the word go. With everyone in the water, your guides will set you loose to begin your journey, gently spinning and swirling in the current, taking in the changing at the same time – if you can.

You stop briefly to enjoy a popular Dominican past time – river bathing, where you swim in the crystal clean waters for a few minutes, before continuing down the scenic river until your exit point.

The Fort Young Hotel offers the ideal location for mooring your yachts while visiting Dominica. The jetty and dinghy dock is located on the southern end of the capital Roseau, where most business transactions and clearing of Customs are done. There is no need to travel long distances in your dinghy or to spend unnecessary money on taxis, just tie up your dinghy at the dock and walk right into Roseau.

The Tamarind Tree Hotel & Restaurant is ideally located in the center of Dominica’s west coast on top of a 100-foot cliff, offering a beautiful view over the Caribbean Sea, the Bay of Salisbury and Morne Diablotin. Roseau, the capital, is 12-miles/20 km to the south; Portsmouth is 12-miles/20 km to the north, about a 30-minute drive each way. To Canefield Airport, north of Roseau, it is a 20-minute drive and to Melville Hall Airport in the northeast it is a 1 hour and 15 minute drive. The beach of Macoucherie is a three minute walk away and the beach of Salisbury, where the dive center East Carib Dive is located, is a seven minute walking distance. To the village of Salisbury it is a 15 minute walk.
This pleasing middle class hotel under Swiss-German management, features twelve double rooms (17m2) with bathroom and of common porch with ocean view. The six standard rooms on the 1st floor are equipped with either one double or two single beds. The six superior rooms on the 2nd floor have one king size or two twin beds. Possibility to add a third bed for triple occupancy or a baby crib (two baby cribs are available).
The four family suites consist of two adjoining rooms with a communicating door and sleep up to six persons (two adults and four children under sixteen belonging to the same family).
Room amenities
The pool is 4m x 8m and 1.20m to 1.70m deep. There is a shallow part for small children. Umbrellas, beach chairs and beach towels are provided.
The Tamarind Tree Restaurant is a public restaurant on the premises and comfortably seats 30 persons in the semi-open part and 20 persons in the terrace.
The kitchen offers a wide range of local creole as well as international dishes, appetizers, snacks, salads and desserts prepared with fresh local ingredients.
Specials: Kubuli Draft, the locally brewed Kubuli Beer, one of the world`s best Lager beers, is served as Draft Beer only at The Tamarind Tree.
