This was a splendid day out, and included (not mentioned in itinerary) a visit to a hilltop Celtic village and Mount Tecla, spectacularly overlooking the mouth of the River Minho. It is a long day, so make sure you have a relaxing morning to follow. Lunch was taken in Portugal and very good, consisting of soup, a baked cod dish topped with beautiful crisp potatoes, a dessert, coffee, water and plenty of wine. There is a little bit of walking to do, and some hilly bits and steps, so may not suite a person of lesser mobility. Scenery was magnificent on the perfectly sunny day I was lucky to have. I was the only English speaking individual on a bus full of Spanish speaking people, who were nice polite folk. One or two had some words of English, so I enjoyed their company at the table for lunch.

    Madrid Segway Tour

    Madrid Segway Tour

    BOOK THIS TOUR!
    From £34.36
    Location: Madrid, Spain
    4star based on 3 reviews

Zip through the streets of Madrid on a revolutionary Segway! Not only is it easy but, loads of fun as well. You will see the Royal Palace, the Almudena, Templo de Debod and the Mayor and de Espana Plaza’s on this unique tour.

    Highlights

    • Segway tour
    • Safety helmet
    • Local guide
    • Conducted in English

Start your tour with a safety briefing and some basic training before setting off on a route through central Madrid.

Pass by Almudena Cathedral, recently completed in 1992 after more than 110 years of construction. Although the church is relatively new, this spot has been a place of worship since the city’s earliest settlement.

The Palacio Real or Royal Palace, was the brainchild of Felipe V, the first of the Bourbon Kings. His plan was to build an architectural masterpiece to rival its European counterparts. What you now see is an Italianate baroque colossus boasting around 2800 rooms. It is still used for official receptions, however the current King does not reside in the Palace. You will also see the beautiful Sabatini gardens in honor of Francesco Sabatini, an Italian architect who worked a great deal on the Royal Palace.

See the amazing Templo de Debod, a 4th Century-BC Egyptian temple which was saved from the rising waters of Lake Nasser and sent block by block to Spain in 1970.

Cruise through the famous Plaza de Espana where you will see a statue of Spanish writer, Cervantes. At the writer’s feet is a bronze of his most well known characters, Don Quijote and Sancho Panza.

Return to the heart of Madrid, Plaza Mayor built in typical Herrerian style. Formerly a center for Royal festivities and Bull fighting, the square was burnt to the ground in 1790 but, was subsequently resurrected. Today the square is lined with shops and alfresco cafes, which makes it the perfect place to end your tour.

    Schedule

Departure Point: Tour departs from Plaza De Santiago no. 2 near Plaza Mayor.
    Departure Time: 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 7:00pm

A highlight of our vacation in Madrid. Extremely personable staff. After an initial orientation to the Segway, we were off and covered much more than anticipated in our 1 hour tour in areas of Madrid that included the Royal Palace and the Plaza de Espana, which are quite Segway friendly. Don’t expect details on the Spanish monarchy, do expect a lot of fun. Maybe Grandma should sit this one out.

We really enjoyed our trip to Morocco! Despite my husband’s reservations to go with our small children, it turned out to be a great day! We got to stop and ride a camel before taking to the streets of Tangier and experiencing the local culture. They took us to a very nice shop, where we could peruse the local handicrafts hassle-free. We also had a wonderful lunch while listening to live Moroccan music.

Muslim Granada: Alhambra and Arab Bath

Muslim Granada: Alhambra and Arab Bath

    BOOK THIS TOUR!
    From £47.16
    Location: Granada, Spain
    3.5star based on 11 reviews

Combine history and indulgence on an unforgettable day in Granada. Spend the morning exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of The Alhambra, followed by a relaxing afternoon Arab Bath.

    Highlights

    • Entrance fees
    • Hotel pickup and drop off
    • Quiromassage and aromatherapy (if option selected)
    • Conducted in English

In the morning, visit one of the most visited monuments in the world The Alhambra (approximately 2.5 hours). Its construction was started by the founder of the Nasrid Dynasty: Mohammed Ibn Alhamar, in the 16th century, at the red hill known as Assabic, which overlooks Granada . The fortress or alcazaba was built in first place, and afterwards, the Royal Palace and the highest part of the Alhambra which became the court member residence. Later on, Charles V commissioned a palace to be built at the same site.

You have the afternoon free before making your way to indulge in an Arab bath, where the murmur of water intermingles with jasmine notes and mint tea. All senses will sail away in a sea of arches and blue vaults over hexagonal adobe columns. The Arab bath, apart from its effect on the body and soul by means of weak light and essential oils, has been considered a social meeting center, where business was celebrated and where important daily life questions were discussed.

The hamman offers a new concept of bathing, focused on general body care, keeping the peaceful atmosphere and the simple refinement inherited from Al-Andalus.

You have the option of combining the Arab bath with a massage and aromatherapy.

    Schedule

Departure Point: Tour departs from centrally located Granada hotels
Departure Time: Between 9:15am and 9:45am

Return Details: Returns to original departure point at approximately 6:00pm, you are then required to make your own way to the Arab Baths which will conclude at approximately 7:30pm

    For additional information GO HERE!

The Alhambra was breathtaking. he start of the tour felt shambolic, but the guide we had was awesome and the experience was definitely enhanced by his knowledge and presence. We had to work to get the address of the baths from the tour company when the Alhambra tour was complete as they took the voucher right at the beginning, it wasn’t needed for the bath. There really needs to be a system where you are given a brochure from the baths so you have a name and address, instead of someone pointing at a map. That being said, the 11th Century Arab baths were an amazing experience and one we will never forget.
