Ten out of ten for this trip. From the start to the finish we were looked after extremely well, especially at the Niagara Falls end where we were met by our wonderful tour guide, who spoke to us in three languages and kept us all entertained throughout the day. He was a very kind and patient man who was able to answer any questions we had. The reason we took this trip was to experience the Falls, and we were not disappointed, the sheer might and power of one of the natural wonders of the world was breath taking. The first of many highlights on this active day out is a visit to Versailles’ village market to buy baguettes, cheese, ham, wine and whatever else you desire for your delicious picnic lunch in Versailles’ gardens. The next highlight today is a bike ride through the gardens behind Versailles palace. The new whale watching hotspot in Sri Lanka

Blue whales commonly sighted off southern Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has recently completed its first fully fledged whale watching season.

Between 08 October 2008 and 13 April 2009, Mirissa Water Sports had 108 whale watching expeditions, during which Blue whales were encountered 71 per cent of the time. The strike rate was even higher during the December to April period, peaking from January to April. During March and April Blue whales were recorded almost every day.

The early arrival of the monsoon rains made the seas too rough after the 13th April. The data confirms that the South of Sri Lanka is the most reliable place in the world in which to see Blue Whales, during the main season.

Not cheap, but an incredible experience. Our pilot was great, and the whole trip was an absolute joy. I had expected a more personal approach, but you’re one of many passengers at the office. I guess it’s big business and it’s the most efficient way of doing things. As soon as you get in the chopper, it really doesn’t matter. I did expect a little more time on the ground in the canyon, and the lunch was more of a quick sandwich than what I had expected from a champagne lunch. Having said that, these really are minor issues and I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone.
