Shopping for Cheap Flights for your Holiday?

Shopping-for-Cheap-Flights-for-your-HolidayIt is hard to deny the fact that airfares on many airlines today are terribly expensive, especially if it’s the peak season for international travel. Even cheap international flights can get very pricey at peak periods such as during school holidays, but also if you don’t get them at the right time. Making a savings out of your travel expenses may prove impossible if you avoid searching for the best airfare deals in the market.

If you really want to cut down on the total expense of your travel cost then you better do your best to find the cheapest airfare deals available to you. Here are some ideas on how to do just that.

1. Look for Discounted Airfares on the Internet

Most airline and travel companies on the Internet offers low airfares, and it’s quite convenient for consumers since they can easily spend some time searching before booking the flights they want in the convenience of their own home or at the office.

It’s quite easy to look for the best airfare deals online since you can utilize search engines to make your research much easier to deal with. You can go for travel-related companies affiliated with known airlines and have them book your flights for you. One advantage to using online travel services is the ability to help you seek out which days offer lower rates in terms of departure and arrival time, or on specific discounted dates.

You might also want to check out other possible travel and holiday deals that will help minimize your travel costs — such as travel or holiday packages that includes hotel accommodations, transportation costs, and of course, your airfare. You may also want to check out all inclusive holiday offers, which sometimes works out cheaper.

2. Consult a Travel Agent

Travel agents are quite handy to have around if you need to have your flight booked according to your specifications without having to do it on your own. If you can’t find the time to do the work yourself or just don’t have the resources, one advantage to getting these experts to do your work for you is their contacts in the travel industry can help them find the best airfare deals for you in the shortest possible time. Provide them with the details of your travel, such as the exact date you want to leave and return from your destination, budget, and the likes.

3. Look to fly during off-peak

If you want to get the cheapest airfare deals in the industry then you might want to book your flight during off-peak hours — which is to say around late in the evening or early in the morning. In most cases, many airlines offer quite a discount for last minute deals just to get as much passenger as possible for every flight.

The only drawback to this solution is that there are many bookings for these seats in advance due to its cheap price. It is advised to consider at least 3 or 4 airline companies for this method so that you will have a seat available when you need it.

4. Look for Cheap and Low-Cost Airlines

If all else fails, you can always look for the best airfare deals on cheap or low-cost airlines in the market. There are quite a lot of them around and many travellers find it affordable to opt for this method of travel than getting one from better known airlines. They are not known for quality or luxurious accommodations and seating is a bit cramped — at least it gets you where you’re going without emptying your wallet.

5. Try Price Comparison Websites

Although using price comparison websites aren’t that popular anymore, low budget travellers and people looking for cost effective travel options still find significant savings when using a price comparison sites. Price comparison travel sites are plentiful and using them can only be to your advantage as they significantly reduce the effort of searching multiple travel sites.

6. Wait For the Prices to Go Down

Airfare rates tend to go down on specific dates and go back up again when the peak season or summer holidays start. If you check out the history of airfare rates, you will see that many of these airline companies increase their prices during special holidays, like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, or when the summer season begins. Avoid last minute bookings if you want to cut down on travel costs.

One idea here is to book your flight well in advance. You will find that there are certain discounts to be had when you reserve your seats for travel early. Since holiday rates don’t usually apply until a few weeks before the event, you will surely get a good deal out of it when you get the seats long before the prices go up.

7. Look for Rewards and Frequent-Flyer Miles

If you are fond of collecting rewards then you might want to look for some coupons or frequent-flyer reward points to get discount rates on airfare deals. Credit card companies also have some reward points schemes for specific airline companies and they even have discounts if you use their card services for your reservations often.

Another idea is to become a member of airline or travel groups that offer frequent-flyer discounts or mile credits for you to use later on, if you are not already in such a programme. Watch out for these rewards since they are quite handy to cut down travel cost when you need them.

8. Look for a Flight Consolidator

There are some travel agents known as flight consolidators who are experts in the airline industry. They are updated with the latest deals directly from the airlines and offer those big discounts to various destinations around the globe. They are the perfect medium to use when you need to go somewhere with a limited budget. Hook up with one easily by checking them out in the local yellow pages or look for their contact information on the Web using search engines. Give them your budget and destination, as well as your planned flight schedule to successfully get the best airfare deals for your needs in record-breaking time.

Shop for It

Getting the cheapest airline tickets in the market requires a little window shopping. You need to check out airline companies or travel agencies for some good offers to your holiday destination. You can find a lot of them on the Internet, just check out the search engines. Avoid picking out the first airfare deal you see online and always take some time to compare the rates before making your final choice.

Again, you need to do better on your research if you want to get the best price for your travel. You don’t have to check individual companies if you use travel price comparison websites since there are quite a lot of them around. There are some sites that allow you to check for specific flight schedules from different airline companies in a single look-up, so make use of them to expedite your search.

There are cheap airfares you can use for your travel needs, and you don’t need to empty your wallet just to get to your destination. Keep in mind that these offers may be hidden from the general public and it would take a lot of research on your end to find them for your use.

Take your time and start planning your next holiday early. Look around for the cheapest flights to your holiday destination, as saving money on your flights could put more money in your pocket to spend while on holiday.

Family Camping Holiday Uncategorized

Family Camping Holiday

camping-holidayWhile getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life is one of the reasons families choose to go camping, for kids – it’s the ultimate adventure. If you are planning a family camping holiday this summer, here are some tips that will ensure your holiday is both a safe and fun experience.

1. Pre-camping preparation – If you have small children, you may want to select a tent that will accommodate all of you comfortably. On the other hand, if you are camping with older children, it may be a good idea to purchase additional pup tents to give them some sense of independence.

Another great tip is to practice assembling the tents in your backyard so as to avoid wasting time at the camp site.

2. Selecting a campsite – Depending upon whether you decide to “rough it” or choose a campsite that is close to amenities, you can research the many campsites online that offer comprehensive information on the area. This will enable you to decide not only what equipment, clothing, and food you need to take, but the available hiking areas and points of interest as well.

Ensure that the campsite you select is an official campsite area. Moreover, when researching camping sites it’s a good idea to look for those areas that are on the high ground. Thus, if it rains, your tent and equipment will not become water logged.

3. Make a checklist – This is very important to ensure you do not forget anything on your camping holiday. Among the items on your checklist, some of the more important items you will need are:

  • Cooking gear such as a frying pan, a few pots, a bucket, barbecue grill or stove, bags with a Ziploc, and cooking utensils. In addition, food containers and canned goods are best. It is also recommended that you prepare meals at home and package them in containers for the trip. Also take enough water, a can opener, hot water kettle and coffee pot, and a cooler with a block of ice.
  • Packing the appropriate clothing is also essential. Depending upon the location, wearing light layers is a good idea as well as packing some sweaters and jackets for the evening hours. Extra socks, hats, and gloves may also be warranted. If you intend to engage in some hiking, proper hiking boots are necessary. Don’t forget a compass.
  • Sleeping bags, first aid kit, flashlights, cell phone, garbage bags, toiletries, sunscreen, ointments, a map of the area, insect repellent, games for the kids, and rainwear.

For a complete checklist on what to bring on a camping trip, there are many camping websites that offer a myriad of suggestions.

4. When you reach the camp site, choose an area to set up the tents. Ensure there are no rocks or debris where the tent will be set up. Most campgrounds will post warning signs or instructions regarding specific animals and vegetation.

5. When preparing a campfire, if appropriate, ensure that it is set up a good distance away from the tents. After you have roasted the marshmallows, sang songs, and told ghost stories; douse the fire before going to bed.

Finally, enjoy the entire camping experience. Sleeping under the stars, communing with nature, and relishing the time spent with family will not only bring a family closer together, but the memories of this experience will last forever.

Please remember to take enough garbage bags with you as you should always clean-up after you. Most camping sites offer refuse disposal bins for different types of waste, so when cleaning up it is advisable to use different bags for bio-degradable waste, plastics and glass or metal/foil products.

Romantic Weekend Getaways to America USA

Romantic Weekend Getaways to America

romantic-holidaysThe lure of America has always been romantic and irresistible to us Brits, and with more couples jetting off across the Atlantic to enjoy a holiday in America, we thought some pointers for a romantic holiday might help you decide on your next destination. Some of the most romantic weekend getaways exist in the most populated destinations in the US. Here are a few to consider.

Let’s look at Manhattan. You can spend a fabulous weekend in New York City and stay either at the Marriott Marquis Times Square Hotel, for example, which is right next to the Theatre District; or you can book a weekend at the Plaza Hotel overlooking Central Park. Perhaps you would like to stay at the Mandarin Hotel and Spa where you can both be pampered for the weekend – very romantic. No matter what your budget is; Manhattan is more than accommodating.

Needless to say, Manhattan is considered one of the most romantic spots in the U.S. Whether you enjoy dinner in your hotel suite or dine at any one of the five star restaurants, the night is always young for lovers who seek solitude in a city that hosts millions of tourists each year. Whether you take a carriage ride through Central Park, enjoy an opera or symphonic performance at Lincoln Centre, or walk along Fifth Avenue during the evening hours; the city offers something for every romantic.

San Francisco. With its rolling hills, fantastic cuisine, and friendly people; San Francisco offers hotel stays that are sure to enhance your romantic side. Among the most notable hotels are the Fairmont hotel, located in the Nob Hill area; the Mandarin Oriental, which is known for its best views of the Bay and the city; or the downtown Intercontinental Hotel San Francisco that is close to cable cars, shopping, restaurants, and theatres.

Stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf and stop by Ghirardelli Square where you can pick up some of their famous chocolates before having dinner at one of the many seafood restaurants on the wharf such as McCormick and Kuleto’s, where the panoramic view of the Bay, as well as Alcatraz island; both of which are a stunning backdrop. You may also wish to stop by O’Neill’s Irish Pub for an after-dinner drink. You may leave your heart here after departing this great city by the Bay.

We shall move on to Las Vegas – about which much has been written on this site. Time will stand still at this resort destination. With a myriad of hotels to choose from you can enjoy your time here without having to worry about time, because there are no clocks in the casinos in Las Vegas.

With great weather year round (hot, but always dry), you can wile away the early morning hours at the hotel’s pool and enjoy the evening attending a fabulous show or visit lady luck at the casino.

Whether you take a stay at the Venetian Hotel and enjoy a romantic ride on a gondola; enjoy the Spa and Salon at the world famous Hotel Bellagio; or marvel at the lush indoor gardens, aquarium, and the Secret Garden at the Mirage; Las Vegas is both affordable for any budget and is the perfect weekend romantic getaway.

Lake Placid is by far my favourite US romantic getaway. Far away from the maddening crowd, you will find comfort and romance at the Mirror Lake Inn. With gorgeous mountain and lake views, fireplace, and very large tubs, you will find the accommodations more than satisfactory. In fact, they are quite conducive to a romantic weekend.

Among the many things you might like to do is to take a walk to the neighbouring town of Lake Placid, only two miles away. Here you will find shops along the Main Street and you can stop at the Cottage for lunch. Swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking are some of the romantic activities available at Mirror Lake Inn.

Above are just some ideas for a romantic getaway for you and your partner in America, but surely there must be many more romantic getaways we don’t know about. If you have any other suggestions for a romantic escape in the US, please let us all know in the comments below.

10 Year Tourism Master Plan for Sri Lanka Sri Lanka

10 Year Tourism Master Plan for Sri Lanka

flickr_anuradhapura_srilankaTourist arrivals to Sri Lanka has increased over the past few months; in June by 8.1%, in August 34.3%, and in October 7.0%. Requests to invest in tourism projects have also increased tremendously. H.E. the President has declared 2011 the “Visit Sri Lanka Year” and set a target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals by 2016.

With this in mind, the Board of Management of the SLTDA decided to prepare a 10-year Tourism Master Plan (2011-2020) to ensure the preservation of Sri Lanka’s resources while meeting the needs of tourists. The Master Plan will identify tourist generating markets, demand for accessibility, and diverse types of tourism product development and human resource development.

As the first step, the UNWTO assisted the SLTDA in preparing the terms of reference for a consultant to undertake the 10-year plan. Subsequently, Mr. John Yacoumis, consultant for UNWTO, was appointed and from November 16th – 26th undertook the necessary field work in Sri Lanka, which included discussions with Government and private sector individuals. In addition, Dr. H. Varma, Director/Development Assistant – UNWTO, was also in Sri Lanka (November 17th – 19th) to discuss relevant matters with the Ministry of Tourism, External Resources Department, and the UNDP.

The New York Times Ranks Sri Lanka the No. 1 Destination for Travellers in 2010 Sri Lanka

The New York Times Ranks Sri Lanka the No.…

ruwan1The New York Times chose Sri Lanka as the world’s No. 1 place to go in 2010, noting that the end of the terrorist threat last May promises “a more peaceful era for this tear-drop island off India.”

(PRNewswire) The selection at the top of the major newspaper’s list of The 31 Places to Go in 2010 is expected to deliver huge benefits for Sri Lankan tourism. “The Sri Lankan government welcomes travellers from around the globe to experience our nation’s rich culture and traditions,” President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated. “We urge travellers far and wide to come to our shores and see for themselves this gem of the Indian Ocean,” the President added.

The New York Times captured the unrivalled natural beauty of Sri Lanka. “The island, with a population of just 20 million, feels like one big tropical zoo: elephants roam freely, water buffaloes idle in paddy fields and monkeys swing from trees. And then there’s the pristine coastline …”

The honour comes at a crucial time for the country as President Mahinda Rajapaksa works to galvanize the nation in a post-war era. In May 2009 the Sri Lankan government defeated the Liberation Tamil Tigers of Eelam (LTTE), a militant group seen as one of the world’s most violent terrorist organizations. Since the war’s end, the Sri Lankan Government has made efforts to unite all Sri Lankans and usher in an era of peace and reconciliation.

In December 2009 Sri Lanka recognized the fifth anniversary of the 2004 tsunami that devastated the country. The recovery validated the coordinated, aid efforts by Sri Lankans and the international community that helped restore Sri Lanka to its original state of natural splendour.

“This is a testament to our national strength and fortitude. As we continue to move forward past tragedy and violence I am hopeful that others will see Sri Lanka as I do – a beacon of prosperity, a nation of people united by hope, and a place of unrivalled magnificence,” President Rajapaksa said.

This has been distributed by Qorvis Communications, LLC on behalf of the government of Sri Lanka.
