The fun of getting up really early and watching the balloon inflate in the sunrise and slowly getting into shape was an exciting experience for me and my wife. More so when we lifted slowly into the air. The experience was exhilarating – a sense of peaceful awe, when the burner isn’t blowing fire that is. Great ride; we had a bumpy topsy turvy landing due to the gust near the ground, but it was absolute fun! To cap it all, the breakfast at the vineyard with champagne was very nice too. It will be a mistake to miss this!

Depart Darwin and journey by 4WD to World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Travel to the ancient Aboriginal rock art sites at Ubirr. Learn of the significance connected to these x-ray style paintings. You will also see the delicate Mimi paintings, believed to be older than the x-ray style art. Enjoy lunch in a bush setting before joining an Aboriginal guide for the Guluyambi cruise on the East Alligator River. As you glide along the tranquil waters, learn of the flora, fauna, Aboriginal mythology and history of the region from your guide. Continue on to the Aboriginal land of Hawk Dreaming for those staying at our Exclusive Hawk Dreaming Wilderness Camp.

Stay: Kakadu National Park – Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn Room (First-Class).

Day 2. Nourlangie Rock, Pine Creek, Katherine Gorge Sunset Dinner Cruise (Dinner included)

Depart Katherine and travel to the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the resting place for many Second World War soldiers and civilians killed in the 1942 air raids on Darwin. Continue on to Litchfield National Park, stop to view the intriguing termite mounds, some standing well over two metres tall. See the picturesque double waterfall that forms Florence Falls, surrounded by lush rainforest. Stop for lunch (own expense), then travel to the rock pool at Wangi Falls. From the cool marble foyer to the natural billabong and swimming pool, Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn is the ideal retreat from the hot Top End and is situated in the very centre of magnificent World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park.

Day 1: Darwin – Kakadu National Park – Yellow Water Depart Darwin and venture into the vast and diverse landscape of Kakadu National Park. Stop to visit Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to learn a little about the park, its history, flora, fauna and ancient culture. Continue to Kakadu’s most famous wetland area, Yellow Water billabong for your cruise. Watch for crocodiles and the famous Kakadu birdlife. Following lunch, travel to Nourlangie Rock to view galleries of ancient Aboriginal artworks. As is evident from all the paintings, this has always been an area of great significance to local Aborigines.

Day 2: Twin Falls by Canoe Travel by 4WD to the edge of the Arnhem Land escarpment and beautiful Jim Jim Falls, the largest waterfalls in the park. Enjoy a refreshing bushwalk through monsoonal forest surrounded by towering cliffs. Continue along the winding sand track to Twin Falls Gorge where there is time to explore this remote region. Note: It’s essential you are active and able to paddle your own canoe. Should seasonal conditions not permit visit to Twin Falls, it will be replaced with visit to Maguk (Barramundi Falls).

Day 3: Kakadu National Park- Ubirr – East Alligator River Cruise – Darwin Travel to Ubirr before joining the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River. By special permission, take a short walk into Arnhem Land accompanied by an Aboriginal guide. Call into Bowali Visitor Centre, take photos of giant termite mounds and visit Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre. Enjoy a glass of wine while watching the changing light of day over the flood plain.

Important: The walk to Jim Jim falls is quite strenuous and an excellent level of fitness is required. Recommended good hiking shoes for this walk.If seasonal conditions do not permit a visit to Jim Jim or Twin Falls it will be replaced with alternative touring. You are not permitted to swim at Twin falls.

Your full day Top End tour from Darwin to Katherine Gorge will see you first stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the resting place for many World War II soldiers. Continue to the Adelaide River Inn for a comfort and breakfast stop (own expense) before continuing on to Edith Falls via Pine Creek where there’s time for a refreshing swim (conditions permitting).

After lunch, enter Nitmiluk National Park, home to 13 stunning gorges. Stop by the Visitor Centre before joining your guided cruise between the sheer sandstone cliffs of Katherine Gorge. As you glide along the tranquil waters, enjoy commentary from your guide detailing the area’s plant and wildlife and explaining the Aboriginal rock art, which adorns the walls of the gorge. Keep an eye out for crocodiles, turtles and the splendid array of birdlife.

You will then begin the return journey to Darwin, making an early evening stop for dinner. Take this opportunity to sample one of the specialties’ of the Top End, Barramundi and chips (own expense).
