Coral Gardens Hotel is amongst the pioneer beach hotels on the south-western coast of Sri Lanka. Facing the splendid coral reefs of Hikkaduwa with immaculately tendered gardens, the hotel is world renown for what it has to offer by way of underwater adventure. A professional team of PADI certified instructors offer certification courses and will also test your skill level and help you make the best use of the available facilities for scuba diving and snorkelling. There are 15 diving locations to pick from, including two ancient shipwrecks. And for the absolute amateur, there are glass-bottomed boats that will take you around the reef. Be dazzled by the colourful sea life of the reefs or just relax on the sun-drenched beach. Or take a break from sun, sea and sand and explore the many wonders that lie not too far inland from the hotel.

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage City of Galle, some 25km further south. The old Dutch fort and the many lovingly restored properties within, are all well worth the experience.

ACCOMMODATION

The Coral Garden Hotel offers its guests 154 air conditioned rooms with en suite bathrooms. There are both baths and showers with bath towels, toiletries and all the usual amenities. All rooms face westward towards the Indian Ocean and the glorious afternoon sunsets. All rooms have satellite television, 24hrs room service and laundry services.

DINING

Food at the Coral Garden Hotel is excellent and the kitchen prides itself on providing a wide array of dishes to satisfy everyone. A generous spread of international cuisine is well complemented by exotic Sri Lankan dishes. The “International” element is accentuated every night with a special “ethnic” corner. Food goes down better if the ambience is right and the restaurant is a nice place to sit and dine and also makes a hang-out place to sit and relax.

The poolside bar serves snacks, fresh fruit juices and cocktails all day long.

ACTIVITIES

Underwater safaris
Under the watchful eyes of professional instructors, guests are tested for their skills at snorkelling and diving and depending on the skill level taken out to explore the magical world that lies just a few hundred meters offshore, the Hikkaduwa Coral Reef, home to the a colourful array of wondrous creatures of the sea. For the more experienced divers, there are 15 dive sites and two ancient shipwrecks whose histories along with fascinating tales lie at the bottom of the sea. They provide an opportunity to dive into a different century. Glass-bottom boats are also available for those who don’t want to take the plunge.

Herbal Health Centre
The Ayurvedic Health Centre offers a range of services designed not just to alleviate aches and pains and relieve stress, but enhance that overall feel-good sensation of your body. The physicians will work with you to come up with a treatment plan that suits your needs and fits your schedule. Herbal baths, aromatherapy, facial massages, body massages…in fact the entire gamut of Ayurvedic treatments devoted to making you look and feel terrific.

Recreation
There is a lot to do in and around Hikkaduwa, but if you’re ready to travel short distances, the region provides travellers with many stunning experiences. The hotel will arrange transport to visit the Galle Fort, Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, a drive to the hill country with endless tea estates and lots of other cultural experiences such as visits to temples and other ancient historic sites.
